NHKラジオ第二 実践ビジネス英語

Hello! This is Nobuo Sakamitsu, who is the acupuncturist of Kiraido Acupuncture & Moxibustion clinic in Ikeshita, Chikusa-ku, Nagoya.

I’ve been learning English through radio.
I make a habit of listening to radio English programs broadcast by NHK with the iPod touch every day, recording them with my favourite app. How convenient!

I learned an idiom “something else” today.

“Something Else” reminds me of a cool rock’n’roll tune by Eddie Cochran.
As a teenager in 80’s, I was impressed by Sid Vicious singing this tune wildly.
I have listened to it so so many times without thinking of the meaning of its lyrics since then.

Today, I learned its meaning at last.
I understand that “something else” means something great which is not like ordinary people or things.
The song is about something “AWESOME”, right?

My favourite line of the lyrics is “that can’t stop me from a-thinkin’ to myself”, which represents his weakness as well as ambitiousness.
